MARYLAND (WBFF) — Kelly Shields was driving on U.S. Route 50 in late August when she saw a car smashed all the way to the steering wheel, with the driver unconscious.
She immediately pulled over and checked for the man’s pulse before removing him from the smoking car. Shields, of Arnold, then called 911 and started asking him questions as he slowly gained consciousness.
“I was talking to an officer, and he had asked if I was a nurse,” Shields said, dressed in scrubs at the time. “That’s when I told him that I was a senior in high school, and I was just on my way to my school.”
The 17-year-old student at Broadneck High School is working toward her certified nursing assistant and certified clinical medical assistant certifications at the Center of Applied Technology South.
