SUN: Baltimore animal shop owner faces 50-count indictment after 300 birds rescued

An exotic bird store owner in East Baltimore was indicted on 50 counts of animal cruelty Friday, several months after city officials rescued more than 300 birds from “overcrowded cages and unsanitary conditions.”

Court records show Cristian Rodriquez-Morales’ charges include nine aggravated cruelty felonies, as well as five misdemeanor cruelty charges involving an animal’s death.

The 31-year-old Parkville resident, who owned the Loros Exoticos Baltimore pet store, is not under arrest. He’ll instead be summoned to appear in court for a hearing that has not yet been scheduled.

As of Tuesday morning, state court records did not list an attorney representing Rodriquez-Morales. Messages sent to Loros Exoticos through email and social media were not immediately answered.
