The man accused of killing his father-in-law, Timonium lawyer Robert MacMeekin, will remain held without bail, a Baltimore County Circuit Court judge ruled at a hearing Tuesday morning.

After listening to arguments made by Mark Ryan’s attorney and prosecutors about whether Ryan, of Bel Air, is a flight risk or a threat to public safety, Judge James Rhodes said he didn’t think there was a “less onerous means” to ensure that the public is protected and that Ryan shows up to trial.

Ryan, 41, was indicted in late May on charges including first-degree murder, first-degree assault and home invasion in the death of MacMeekin, 74, who was a partner at Fine, Kelly & MacMeekin law firm in Timonium.

Police believe Ryan fatally shot MacMeekin in Phoenix on May 2 after the lawyer helped his daughter, Ryan’s wife, obtain a protective order against Ryan. According to charging documents, Ryan and his wife had been involved in a domestic incident at their Bel Air home that same weekend.
