BALTIMORE (WBFF) — Along with confiscating 11 vehicles over the weekend, Baltimore Police Department announced that it will increase its efforts to penalize dirt bikers and gas station owners, who can be fined up to $1,000 for selling them gas.
Under Baltimore City code, gas station owners and employees can be fined up to $1,000 and sentenced to as much as 90 days in jail if they are caught selling fuel to dirt bike riders or drivers of other unregistered vehicles. Riders face similar penalties and can also have their vehicles seized.
“If officers view dirt bikes being fueled at gas stations or video evidence of bikes being fueled at gas stations, officers can investigate and write citations in accordance with City Code,” Lindsey Eldridge, spokesperson for the Baltimore Police Department, said. “BPD is working with our Community to get information on the storage of dirt bikes or when dirt bike activity is taking place.”
These ordinances are not new, and have been in effect since at least 2012, but Baltimore Police Department posted a graphic about them on social media Saturday and announced that officers are increasing enforcement of dirt bikes and other off-road vehicles like ATVs and minibikes.
