The pursuit of a stolen car that sped through Ocean City, Berlin and Showell early Saturday ended with three arrests after the driver struck stop sticks, continued on punctured tires, and its three occupants fled into a wooded area, police said.

Police arrested two Dover men and a 17-year-old from Dover after a multiagency search that included Ocean City police K-9 teams and a Maryland State Police helicopter, according to the Ocean City Police Department and arrest reports.

Police said the incident began at about 1:15 a.m. Saturday, when Ocean City officers tried to stop a Chevrolet Impala for speeding on Baltimore Avenue. Because of the car’s speed, officers said they could not safely force the car to stop.

Officers attempted a second stop on Philadelphia Avenue near 31st Street, but the driver evaded officers and accelerated away, police said. The car continued north on Coastal Highway at what police called a high rate of speed and drove through multiple red lights, according to an arrest report.
