
OCEAN CITY, MD. (WBFF) — Ocean City hotels and short-term rentals are being forced to shift as tourism patterns change in the resort town, according to local business owners.
For generations of Maryland families, Ocean City has been the familiar beach destination where summer memories are made. But industry experts are seeing travelers booking later, weighing hotels against short-term rentals and looking harder at the cost of a trip.
“It just doesn’t seem that the summer crowds of summers past have arrived,” said Warren Rosenfeld, a local restaurant owner. “It appears that we’re either going to have no real season this year, or perhaps one that is much shorter than historically so.”
The resort town’s hotels are feeling the same uncertainty.
