BALTIMORE (WBFF) — Former Baltimore State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby asked followers of a Facebook page previously associated with her political campaigns to contribute to a 529 college savings account for her daughter, prompting questions about whether the page should be used for personal fundraising.
Mosby’s post invited followers to participate in what it called a “529 Send Off” as her oldest daughter prepares to attend Mosby’s alma mater, Tuskegee University. The post included a photograph of her daughter and a QR code directing users to Ugift529.com, where they could contribute to the account.
Mosby’s former campaign Facebook page has over 28,000 followers, about 23,000 more than her personal page, where she also shared the post.
The site offered several suggested contribution amounts, including $157, described as the average weekly cost of college meals, and $415, described as the average annual cost of course materials.
