Tickets for the inaugural Power to the People Festival at Merriweather Post Pavilion sold out Saturday, less than 24 hours after presale tickets were snapped up and just minutes after they became available to the general public.
The Oct. 3 festival, organized by rock guitarist and activist Tom Morello, sold out in about 15 minutes Saturday, according to organizers. Presale tickets released Friday had already been exhausted by midafternoon.
The one-day event in Columbia features a lineup that blends major music acts with a message of civic engagement and social activism. Scheduled performers include Foo Fighters, Dave Matthews, Bruce Springsteen, Joan Baez, Killer Mike, Serj Tankian, Cypress Hill, and Public Enemy, which was added to the lineup on Friday.
Morello announced the festival earlier this week while performing with Springsteen at Nationals Park in Washington. Organizers describe the event as a nonpartisan gathering focused on peace, justice, equality, and community action.
