MARYLAND (WBFF) — Annapolis lawmakers are declining to address social media-organized teen “takeovers” during next month’s special session, offices of Senate President Bill Ferguson and House Speaker Joseline Peña-Melnyk told The Baltimore Sun.
Ocean City leaders and a statewide coalition of municipal and law enforcement groups asked Annapolis for an executive order and emergency legislation addressing the issue. And although Gov. Wes Moore’s administration said it has already put a response in motion, critics said it has not gone far enough.
The push follows recurring concerns in Ocean City, where large groups of young people gathered near 120th Street over the Fourth of July weekend, prompting some businesses to close temporarily. Police reported no widespread takeover or major violence this year, but an unsanctioned event during the 2025 holiday weekend led to traffic disruptions, fights and a shooting.
Del. Chris Adams, an Eastern Shore Republican who supports the coalition’s requests, warned that continued gatherings could turn deadly.
