A trial for Emmetson Zeah, the 19-year-old charged in the killing of two teens near the Mall in Columbia last year, is scheduled to start Tuesday in Howard County Circuit Court after weather canceled court proceedings Monday.
Zeah, of Columbia, faces 15 charges, including first-degree murder, first-degree assault, firearm use in the commission of a violent crime, retaliation against a witness, obstruction of justice, reckless endangerment, firearms-related offenses and escape.
Zeah will be represented in court by Henry Roland Barnes, who did not respond to requests for comment.
Howard County State’s Attorney Rich Gibson is prosecuting the case himself. While the State’s Attorney’s Office is not allowed to comment on pending litigation, Gibson told The Sun in a previous interview that he chooses to lead prosecutions of cases he thinks “are significant to the community or highlight an issue in the community.”
