Sykesville police search for suspects in connection to catalytic converter thefts

The Sykesville Police Department is searching for suspects who are responsible for stealing catalytic converters from vehicles early Thursday morning.

On May 21 from around 4:10 to 4:40 a.m., suspects in a silver four-door sedan stole two catalytic converters from Toyota Priuses model years 2009-2010. Authorities said the suspects also attempted to steal a third catalytic converter, but were unsuccessful.

The suspects left the vehicles’ headlights on while removing the catalytic converters, according to officials.

The victims were located in the areas of Norris Avenue and Oklahoma Avenue, Shimmering Run Court as well as near Baldwin Drive and Oklahoma Avenue.

Police described the suspect vehicle as a silver four-door sedan, possibly a Honda or Hyundai, with a sunroof and silver tire rims. It may have a dent in the rear passenger-side bumper. There’s no front tag and there’s possibly an inoperable tag light.

On Thursday, police released photos of the suspect vehicle.
