Maryland’s $3 billion budget deficit—a DIRECT RESULT of years of RECKLESS DEMOCRAT SPENDING—continues to CRIPPLE our state, yet Democrats think they can “fix” it by RAIDING YOUR WALLET! In the final hours of the legislative session, the tax-and-spend LIBERALS gave their rubber stamp to a MASSIVE money grab that will CRUSH hardworking Maryland families for generations to come while STILL FAILING to solve the underlying fiscal crisis!

While Democrats tout their $2.5 billion in so-called “spending cuts”—nothing more than ACCOUNTING TRICKS and BUDGET GIMMICKS designed to HIDE THE TRUTH—the REAL STORY is the STAGGERING $1.6 BILLION TAX ASSAULT being FORCED down the throats of Maryland taxpayers! Republicans FOUGHT HEROICALLY against these OUTRAGEOUS tax increases, especially the SNEAKY new 3% tech tax that will EXTORT nearly $490 million from digital services that EVERY SINGLE MARYLANDER uses!

During what little debate Democrats allowed, Republican lawmakers EXPOSED the SHAMEFUL truth about the Democrats’ tech tax SCHEME—a tax they RUSHED THROUGH without even PRETENDING to understand its devastating impact on Maryland’s already struggling economy!

“We are balancing the budget on the backs of 100% of internet users. That’s the plan? You guys, this is a DELUSION. It should be a JOKE,” said Del. Lauren Arikan, R-Baltimore and Harford Counties, speaking truth to power. “You could have cut something else than taxing everyone’s internet. It’s DISGRACEFUL, it’s EMBARRASSING, and I’m LIVID I found out about it at 2 p.m. on Sine Die.”

In classic Democrat COWARDICE, they’re now passing the buck to unelected bureaucrats to do their dirty work! Senate Minority Leader Steve Hershey pointed out that the LIBERAL Comptroller Brooke Lierman will now determine what industries will be FORCED to collect their new service tax—another example of TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION!

“It’s one of those PASS IT AND THEN FIND OUT WHAT’S IN IT. We’ve asked those questions to be clarified – but how it affects everyday Marylanders, we still haven’t heard,” Sen. Hershey said, calling out the Democrats’ TYPICAL pass-now-think-later approach to destroying our economy.

The Democrats’ TAX TSUNAMI doesn’t stop there! Here’s how else they plan to PICK YOUR POCKETS:

• A $5 per tire tax PUNISHING every vehicle owner
• A 6% sales tax on vending machine purchases because APPARENTLY YOUR SNACKS AREN’T EXPENSIVE ENOUGH
• Raising the cannabis tax from 9% to 12%
• Raising the tax on sports betting from 15% to 20%
• Implementing a rental car excise tax because TOURISM NEEDED ANOTHER HIT
• ACCELERATING vehicle registration fee increases
• Raising the vehicle excise tax from 6% to 6.5% because CARS AREN’T EXPENSIVE ENOUGH
• Implementing a 2% capital gains tax on filers with more than $350,000 in income to PUNISH SUCCESS
• Creating new tax brackets: TARGETING job creators with punitive rates of 6.25% and 6.5%—up from 5.75%!

Rather than CUTTING a SINGLE PENNY from their BLOATED government programs or WASTEFUL pet projects, Democrats have chosen to RANSACK the pockets of hardworking Marylanders during an inflation crisis that’s ALREADY crushing family budgets!

“Whether it’s the tire tax, the tech tax, whether the vending machine tax. There’s so many different taxes that are involved that Marylanders are going to pay MORE because of the work of the General Assembly,” Sen. Hershey said, telling it like it is. “Middle class Marylanders are going to PAY.”
