RODGERS FORGE (WBFF) — An 18-year-old has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for his role in the 2024 shooting of a youth sports coach in Rodgers Forge.
Kamar Thompson, 18, was sentenced to 40 years in prison, suspend all but 25 years to serve, in court on Wednesday.
The first five years of the sentence comes without the possibility of parole.
Thompson was one of two teens to plead guilty on charges connected to the Sept. 2024 shooting.
Thompson was the getaway driver back in the September shooting after his co-defendant, Kai Wilson, shot youth sports coach Mark McKenzie with a semi-automatic handgun during an attempted robbery.
Investigators said as McKenzie attempted to defend himself, the gun fired into his stomach area.
Both teens were underage at the time of the crime, but were charged as adults.
McKenzie was present in court during the plea acceptance last month.
