Trump tells DC mayor, governors to act ‘IMMEDIATELY’ on Potomac River sewage spill

President Donald Trump urged D.C. Mayor Bowser and governors Wes Moore and Abigail Spanberger to act ‘immediately’ on the Potomac River sewage spill.

Last month, a sewer pipe collapsed and sent nearly 250 million gallons of raw sewage into the river. It is expected to take four to six weeks as DC Water works on an interim solution.

In a Truth Social post on Tuesday, Trump wrote, “Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C., who are responsible for the massive sewage spill in the Potomac River, must get to work, IMMEDIATELY. If they can’t do the job, they have to call me and ask, politely, to get it fixed. The Federal Government is not at all involved with what has taken place, but we can fix it.”

His statement comes a day after Trump said he was directing federal resources to protect the Potomac and water supply. Trump also said the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) would play a key role in coordinating the response.

Trump’s Tuesday post went on to say:

“The two Governors and the Mayor of D.C. must act, IMMEDIATELY. This is a Radical Left caused Environmental Hazard. With all of their talk about carbon footprints and everything else, they’re allowing hundreds of tons of sewage to pour into the Mighty Potomac, making it much less mighty. ACT FAST. I am awaiting your call.”

According to DC Water, E. Coli levels in the river were found to be almost 2,000 times higher than safe standards. However, a University of Maryland test recorded levels up to 10,000 times higher in the days immediately after the collapse.

The University of Maryland’s School of Public Health called the incident “one of the largest sewage spills in U.S. history.”
