WASHINGTON (TNND) — President Donald Trump is welcoming hundreds of farmers, ranchers and executives to the White House on Friday to announce new actions his administration is taking to support America’s farm workers.
Trump is expected to promote new guidance on farm equipment regulation geared toward cutting costs and increased government loan guarantees for agriculture products, a White House official told USA TODAY.
The president will also highlight the Environmental Protection Agency’s efforts to boost renewable fuels derived from agriculture products, the outlet reported. The EPA’s updates to the Renewable Fuel Standard for 2026 and 2027 is expected to increase the volume of U.S. biofuels that are required to be blended into fuel.
Trump also plans to announce the EPA will alter guidelines around a system designed to limit diesel emissions, the outlet reported. The new guidance will have diesel vehicle manufacturers switch to a different diesel exhaust fluid sensor. The White House has said the change will save billions of dollars amid concerns about sensors affecting how the vehicles operate.
As farmers continue to struggle with the impacts of and tariffs and now the war in Iran, Trump is looking to gain support for these new initiatives. The war in Iran is increasing gas and fertilizer costs as Iran limits shipments through the Strait of Hormuz.
The Strait handles around a fifth of the world’s oil shipments and nearly a third of global fertilizer trade, The Associated Press reports. Two major fertilizer nutrients, nitrogen and phosphate, remain threatened due to the ongoing conflict restricting trade.
The White House official told USA TODAY that Trump also plans to announce an “enhanced SBA loan guarantee program” designed for small businesses in the agriculture industry.
