Two foxes that were found in Baltimore’s Roland Park neighborhood tested positive for rabies, the Baltimore City Health Department announced Tuesday.

One fox had direct contact with humans; however, the second fox was not reported to have any human exposure.

One fox was picked up near the intersection of Overhill Road and Meadow Lane. The other fox was picked up near the 4400 block of Linkwood Road, according to officials. Both of the locations border Stoney Run Park.

After conducting interviews, officials learned there was another potential human exposed to the same rabid fox that was found along Linkwood Rd.

Animal Control believes there may be up to 5 more foxes in the area that were all a part of the same fox den.

On the evening of June 9, Health Department officers canvassed the area where the rabid foxes were captured.

“We take any rabies exposure seriously,” Dr. Michelle Taylor, health commissioner for the Baltimore City Health Department, said via press release.

Residents living near Stoney Run Park should check their pets for any potential animal bites and if they have “suspicious wounds,” they should be taken to the veterinarian immediately.

Health officials also recommend pet owners ensure their pets are up to date on their rabies vaccinations because if left untreated, rabies can be deadly.
