ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, Md. (7News) — For the first time in more than 40 years, voters in Maryland’s 5th Congressional District will not see the name Steny Hoyer on the ballot. Instead, voters will pick a new person to represent the District.
The 5th District includes portions of Prince George’s and Anne Arundel counties as well as all of the Southern Maryland counties of Charles, Calvert and St. Mary’s.

Hoyer, a Democrat who in the past served as House Majority leader, has represented the 5th District since 1981, but announced earlier this year that he would retire.
The candidates seeking to replace him are Democratic state delegate and former Bowie City Council member Adrian Boafo, Republican small business owner Chris Chaffee and independent Mildred Marie Hall.
