The child had gone missing in the area of Clarke Avenue and Laurel Street. Police said she was wearing pajamas and had her hair in a ponytail.

The child was found, but despite life-saving efforts by law enforcement and EMS, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

At this time, it’s unknown where the child was found as well as her cause of death.

“We ask that you keep the child’s family, loved ones, and all first responders involved in your thoughts during this incredibly difficult time,” a Facebook post by the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office reads.

Pocomoke City officials invited the community to gather for a vigil service at 7 p.m. on July 26 at Cypress Park in support of the child’s family, first responders and the community.
