VILLA RICA, Ga. (TNND — A 12-year-old Georgia girl died just days after she was involved in a fistfight with another girl near a school bus stop in her neighborhood, according to authorities.
The Villa Rica Police Department identified her as Jada West, a sixth grader at Mason Creek Middle School.
Sgt. Spencer Crawford, a police spokesman, on Wednesday said investigators are reviewing evidence, including cellphone video of the fight, and are awaiting autopsy results. He said police plan to meet later this week with prosecutors, who will ultimately decide whether to bring charges.
Jada was involved in a fight with another child on Thursday afternoon, Crawford said. Video circulating on social media appeared to show the confrontation as it escalated.
Crawford said police responded to the scene after the department received a call about “a young juvenile who was in cardiac arrest laying in the street.”
“When we actually arrived, paramedics were on the scene, and they were already loading her up and performing CPR,” Crawford said. “Paramedics told us there was an adult on the scene performing CPR when they arrived.”
De’Quala McClendon, who said she is Jada’s aunt, later said her niece died.
“I can’t believe I’m writing this. Jada you was beautiful you was different from a lot of kids and they didn’t understand that you always had your crown. But now you got your spiritual crown,” McClendon wrote on Facebook.
“It hurts so so bad but I know you are ok and I got to learn how to be ok,” she added. “But Jada it hurts auntie love you so dearly. We love you and Justice will be served I promise you that.”
