FLORENCE, S.C. (WPDE) — A teenager was arrested in connection with the murder of a 16-year-old on Thursday, Jan. 8, according to the South Carolina Florence Police Department (FPD).
The suspect, a 14-year-old, allegedly shot Jonathan Henry Gordon-Charles, of Florence, South Carolina, who later died from injuries sustained in the shooting, according to Florence County Coroner Keith von Lutcken.
Throughout further investigation, it was discovered that the two had planned to meet up. The intention was that Gordon-Charles was selling a THC vape pen to the suspect, FPD said.
At some point during the meet-up, Gordon-Charles was shot. FPD said that a weapon was found on the scene that the victim allegedly had in his possession.

It is a tragedy when any life is lost, especially young lives. We urge families, community leaders, pastors, friends and those close to the youth of Florence; be mentors and role models, show them a better way of life so they are not caught up in a cycle ending like this,” a statement from FPD said.
