PUEBLO, Colo. (TNND) — A 73-year-old Colorado woman is accused of the fatal stabbing of her husband inside a senior living facility. Kathy Lawton was sentenced on Jan. 30 to 20 years in prison.
Lawton was found guilty in December of second-degree murder in the 2024 death of her husband, Larry Lawton.
Larry, 85-years-old at the time, was found dead on the living room floor of Bonaventure Senior Living Facility, and a knife was found atop an end table near his body.
After the stabbing, Lawton went to the front desk to alert staff that Larry was dead and appeared “hysterical,” according to the affidavit.
Prosecutors claimed Lawton appeared “intoxicated at the time of the incident.”
According to arrest documents, Lawson told an officer her husband had fallen and could not get back up.
Residents of the senior living facility heard the couple fighting around 4 p.m., according to court documents, on the day of the killing.
