WASHINGTON (TNND) — A new survey conducted by NBC News shows that a majority of Americans believe the proliferation of Artificial Intelligence will be a net negative for humanity and that both parties aren’t equipped to manage policy around it.
A poll of a thousand registered voters revealed that 34% of voters believe the benefits of AI outweighs the cost while 57% of voters say that the downsides of AI are more prominent than the benefits.
The poll revealed that 33% of voters said they had little confidence in both Democrat and Republican politicians’ ability to manage AI policy. 24% of voters said they did not see a distinction between the two party’s policies on Artificial Intelligence.
Americans’ perception of AI was just one component of the poll, which also asked voters’ questions about Iran, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, President Donald Trump, and Vice President Kamala Harris.
There is great fear from Americans that Artificial Intelligence will lead to sweeping job losses. In December, the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation found that 12,700 jobs were lost in AI. However, the creation of AI data centers have led to the creation of 119,00 new jobs.
