Brown University places vice president for public safety on administrative leave

Brown University President Christina Paxson announced Vice President for Public Safety and Emergency Management Rodney Chatman, will be placed on administrative leave, effective immediately.

Chief Hugh T. Clements, former chief of police of the Providence Police Department, will serve as interim vice president for Public Safety and chief of police.

Brown University Police Sergeants Union announced it unanimously issued a vote of no confidence in Brown University Police Chief Rodney Chatman and Deputy Chief John Vinson in August.

Union officials said multiple Unfair Labor Practice charges have been filed regarding retaliation by management under Chatman’s tenure.
