HUNT VALLEY, Md. (TNND) — A Chinese short-video app was reportedly the victim of a porn cyberattack on Monday.
Kuaishou, which is similar to TikTok, showed many of its users sexual livestreams, multiple Chinese news outlets reported.
The app’s developer, Kuaishou Technology, said that “underground” and “gray” industries carried out the attack, although it’s unclear what that means. The developer noted that it responded to the breach soon after learning about the livestreams, which took place at night.
“The Company is committed to conducting its business in full compliance with relevant laws and regulations, and opposes to any violation content and behavior,” Kuaishou Technology said in a statement. “The Company strongly condemns the illegal and criminal activities of the underground and gray industries, and has reported the incidents to the police and relevant departments.”
Kuaishou Technology added that it will use other “legal remedies” to protect the interests of the company and its shareholders. It put an “emergency plan” into effect immediately after the cyberattack, and the app’s livestreams have begun operating normally, according to the developer.
