WASHINGTON (TNND) — Cuban President Manuel Diaz-Canel said Friday that he is in talks with aides to President Donald Trump regarding “bilateral differences” and to reach “areas of cooperation.”
Secretary of State Marco Rubio has been directed by Trump to talk with officials from Cuba as predictions arise that the communist leadership will soon collapse, according to The Hill newspaper.
After the U.S. and Israel conducted joint strikes on Iran due to concerns about the country having missiles, South Carolina GOP Sen. Lindsey Graham went on Fox News and said that Cuba would be the next target.
Cuba’s Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla said in a post on X that international factors have contributed to discussions with the U.S.
“The purpose of this conversation is, first of all, to identify what the bilateral problems are that require a solution based on the gravity they carry, the impact they have and, on the other hand, to find solutions for these problems that have been identified,” he said.
Democratic Senators Tim Kaine (Virginia), Ruben Gallego (Arizona) and Adam Schiff (California) recently introduced a War Powers Resolution to make sure the U.S. can’t take any military action in Cuba unless Congress permits it.

“When will President Trump understand that Americans want lower prices, not more unnecessary wars?” Kaine said in a statement. “Only Congress has the power to declare war under the Constitution, but he operates with the belief that the U.S. military is a palace guard, ordering military action in the Caribbean, Venezuela, and Iran without Congress’ authorization or any explanation for his actions to the American people.”
