WASHINGTON (TNND) — Democrats are “examining all legal options” after Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche revealed on Friday that the Justice Department would not be releasing all of the remaining documents from the federal government’s investigation into convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Friday marked the deadline set by the Epstein Files Transparency Act for the Justice Department to release the remaining files, but Blache said that “several hundred thousand” documents would be released and that the remaining documents would be made public “over the next couple of weeks.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), House Oversight Ranking Member Robert Garcia (D-CA) and House Judiciary Ranking Member Jamie Raskin (D-MD) have shared that they are exploring legal repercussions to hold the Trump administration accountable for violating federal law.
“Donald Trump and the Department of Justice are now violating federal law as they continue covering up the facts and the evidence about Jeffrey Epstein’s decades-long, billion-dollar, international sex trafficking ring. For months, Pam Bondi has denied survivors the transparency and accountability they have demanded and deserve and has defied the Oversight Committee’s subpoena. The Department of Justice is now making clear it intends to defy Congress itself,” Garcia and Raskin wrote in a joint statement.
“Courts around the country have repeatedly intervened when this Administration has broken the law,” the lawmakers continued. “We are now examining all legal options in the face of this violation of federal law. The survivors of this nightmare deserve justice, the co-conspirators must be held accountable, and the American people deserve complete transparency from DOJ.”
In a separate statement, Schumer echoed a similar sentiment.
“I am working closely with attorneys to assess what documents are still being withheld,” Schumer wrote on X. “We will not stop until the whole truth comes out.”
