The viral fundraiser for a 78-year-old DoorDash driver caught the attention of the DoorDash CEO himself.

DoorDash CEO Tony Xu on Tuesday shared a heartwarming update that he donated $20,000 to the fundraiser for Richard, who went viral after a Manchester, Tennessee customer created a GoFundMe for him after he was caught on her Ring doorbell camera.

The story has stolen hearts across the nation.

DoorDash customer Brittany Smith reached out to Richard after realizing he was her DoorDasher, and he told her he returned to work after his wife lost her job. The couple was struggling to cover monthly expenses and medications, on top of saving for retirement.

As of late Monday afternoon, the GoFundMe raised nearly $1 million.

DoorDash said the team spoke with Richard, who said he plans to continue door dashing because it “keeps him active and he enjoys it.”

Xu thanks Richard for finishing 6,000 deliveries for DoorDash, and also gave Smith a smaller gift for starting the fundraiser.
