There is not enough popcorn in the world to sustain me as the WNBA and its woke allies work themselves into knots over Enes Kanter declaring for the WNBA draft. After weeks of WNBA coaches and owners and players attacking — sometimes physically — Sophie Cunningham for taking a position that at least 80 percent of Americans also hold, namely that men have no place in women’s sports, Kanter and a couple other former NBA players called their bluff.
Let the whataboutism and obfuscation begin! Within hours of Kanter’s announcement, the WNBA Players Association issued a statement saying they will not be used as political pawns, and sportswriter Noa Dalzell called Kanter’s behavior “embarassing.“
Now the Left is trying to draw a distinction between Kanter and William (Lia) Thomas, the man who swam competitively in college.

Thomas did not live his life as a man. He did not take hormones and he did not have his genitals removed. He walked around the women’s locker room naked, his penis in full view of his teammates, who testified they were offered counseling so they could become comfortable with getting undressed in front of a man.

The trans activist movement is deeply rooted in misogyny. William Thomas consistently ranked far back in the pack, coming in 89th overall. In the 200-yard freestyle, he ranked 554th. When he swam as a woman, he came in first in the 500-yard freestyle and 5th in the 200-yard freestyle. That’s quite the improvement, isn’t it?

All his supporters, who sneered that women like Riley Gaines should have trained harder to beat him, never once told Thomas to train harder to beat his fellow men. He had to cheat and compete against women.
We all know a bunch of random men plucked off the street could go head-to-head against any WNBA team and beat them soundly. Yes, even against Caitlin Clark and Sophie Cunningham. As good as they are, they do not beat the men. And if we counted Pete Maravich’s shots from the three-point line (which didn’t exist when he played), he’d still hold the NCAA Division I scoring record of 3,667 points, which he scored in just three years. Clark took her entire Iowa career to score 3,951 points.
And the WNBA plays with a smaller ball and has a shorter three-point line. It would be a bloodbath against men.
The WNBA will find a way to keep Kanter and the other men out of the league, however. Most likely, they’ll look to the collective bargaining agreement and blame the union rules. That way they can try to mollify their critics and claim they’re not transphobic, but merely beholden to the players’ union.
It’s a cop-out, of course.
That’s because there is no difference between William Thomas and Enes Kanter. None. Both of them are men, even if they say they’re women. But those are my rules, and not the WNBA’s, which has insisted trans athletes simply want to play sports.
So how dare these homophobic bigots act as gatekeepers, deciding who can and cannot identify as a woman and play in the WNBA. I’ve been reliably told that’s homophobic, transphobic, and bullying to argue otherwise.
Enes Kanter just wants to play sports, after all.
