A big fire erupted after an explosion at a nursing home in Pennsylvania caused part of the building to collapse on Tuesday, leaving multiple people hurt and trapped inside, authorities said.

The Parkland Fire Company shared a photo of the scene, which showed flames and a big plume of black smoke rising from Silver Lake Healthcare Center in Bristol Township.

“We understand that there are people trapped inside,” said Ruth Miller, who is a Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency spokesperson.

Police Lt. Sean Cosgrove confirmed that people were hurt, but he added that he wasn’t aware of any serious injuries.

“A lot of the details at this point are still unknown,” he told reporters at the scene.

A witness described hearing a “big boom” before he saw people running from the area.

Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro said he was briefed about the explosion. He added that his administration is in contact with local officials and first responders.

“The scene is still active, and folks nearby should follow the direction of local authorities,” the governor wrote on X. “Please join Lori and me in praying for the Bristol community.”

Bucks County officials notified the agency of an explosion before 3 p.m. at the Silver Lake nursing home in Bristol Township, about 20 miles northeast of Philadelphia.
