MIAMI (WKRC) – The family of Helen Massiell Garay Sanchez has filed a $50 million lawsuit after her death in a Dollar Tree freezer in Miami.

Sanchez, a doctor from Nicaragua, was discovered Dec. 14 by a store employee. Police said she entered the store the night before and accessed a restricted, employee-only area and was seen on video getting into the freezer.

The lawsuit alleges that Dollar Tree was negligent in failing to prevent Sanchez from accessing the store’s freezer.

Sanchez’s family also claimed that the store’s manager was “placed on actual notice” that she was missing, hadn’t left the store and “failed to take reasonable action to locate or assist Sanchez,” per WTVJ.
