Florida AG demands nurse’s license revoked after ‘vile’ TikTok, supporters say free speech

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier on Saturday called for the revocation of a Boca Raton labor and delivery nurse’s license, calling her “vile” after a viral TikTok showed her wishing severe childbirth injuries on White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt.

According to previous reports, the nurse — identified as Alexis “Lexie” Lawler — was fired from Baptist Health Boca Raton Regional Hospital following the video, which included explicit language. Baptist Health confirmed her termination, saying the remarks violated the hospital’s standards for compassionate, unbiased patient care.

In the video, Lawler says it “gives [her] great joy” to wish Leavitt would suffer a fourth-degree tear during childbirth — the most severe type of obstetric tear.

“The Florida Board of Nursing should yank this vile person’s license, immediately. She doesn’t belong anywhere near patients.” Uthmeier said in response to the viral video on X.

At the same time, support for Lawler has emerged online.

A GoFundMe campaign created in support of Lexie Lawler describes her firing as retaliation for political speech, arguing she was punished for comments made on her personal social media account, outside of work, and directed at a public figure rather than her employer.

The fundraiser characterizes the backlash as a politically motivated outrage campaign and says the funds will be used to cover employment and civil rights legal counsel. As of Sunday, the campaign had raised more than $3,000 of the $14,000 goal.

The campaign was organized by the company Unlawful Threads, a self-described edgy t-shirt company.
