WASHINGTON (TNND) — Florida GOP Rep. Greg Steube said that it would be worth getting rid of the filibuster if it meant passing the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act (SAVE Act).
The SAVE Act would require proof of U.S. citizenship when people register to vote in federal elections.
Steube’s remarks come just two days after Florida GOP Rep. Anna Paulina Luna threatened to shut down the floor of the House if the Senate didn’t pass the SAVE Act.
Arizona GOP Rep. Eli Crane said he would also get behind Luna in an effort to get the Senate to pass the SAVE Act.
Earlier this month, President Donald Trump called on lawmakers to pass a national voter ID law before the midterms in 2026.
“SAVE Act or the ‘Save America Act.’ I think we’re going to change the name a little bit. I think everyone in this room certainly should do it,” the president said.
