WASHINGTON (TNND) — The Florida legislature approved a bill to rename the Palm Beach International Airport after President Donald Trump on Thursday.
The bill now has to be signed by Florida GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis. The name change could possibly cost up to $5.5 million, according to the Politico news outlet.
State GOP leaders wanted to name the airport after Trump as he is the first president that resides in Florida.
The legislation passed in a 25-11 vote.
The Republican-controlled Florida House showed support of the bill earlier this week.
State Democrats have objected to the legislation, with some saying the trademarking that comes with name changes causes ethical concerns.

“This is about generating revenue from a public entity or a private company, a company with Donald Trump’s interest at the helm, and not the people of the state of Florida,” Democratic state Rep. Shevrin Jones said, regarding the bill.
