WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — Alexander Vindman, the former National Security Council aide who testified against President Donald Trump during his first impeachment trial, is now running for the U.S. Senate in Florida.
Vindman announced his candidacy on Tuesday on X, in a launch video that includes clips referencing the ICE shootings of Alex Pretti and Renee Good. His entry sets up a high-profile campaign in a state where Democrats have struggled in recent cycles, though the party held a Senate seat as recently as 2019.
He is challenging Republican Sen. Ashley Moody, the former Florida attorney general appointed to the seat by Governor Ron DeSantis after Marco Rubio became secretary of state.

Vindman became a central figure in Trump’s first impeachment proceedings after being on the July 2019 call in which Trump pressed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate his political opponents.
