Vice President JD Vance is taking his Christmas break seriously, as he took time to train with Navy SEALs on Monday, saying he felt “like I got hit by a freight train.”

Vance acknowledged they took it easy on him for the 90-minute PT session and said he was “so grateful to all of our warriors who keep us safe and keep the highest standards anywhere in the world!”

Photos released by the vice president’s office showed him carrying logs, rowing in the ocean, running on the beach and climbing a rope obstacle course.

The vice president participated in training at Naval Amphibious Base Coronado in California.

Vance is a Marine Corps veteran who served in the Iraq War and deployed in 2005 with the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing.

In April, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth outlined new physical requirements for all military branches, emphasizing that troops need to be “fit, not fat.”

“It’s tiring to look out at combat formations or really any formation and see fat troops. Likewise, it’s completely unacceptable to see fat generals and admirals in the halls of the Pentagon,” Hegseth told members of the military in September.
