House Homeland Security Committee holds DHS oversight hearing on ICE, CBP and USCIS

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officials are set to appear before the House for an oversight hearing as criticism grows over how federal agents are enforcing President Donald Trump’s ongoing crackdosn on illegal immigration.

The House Homeland Security Committee is holding a three-hour hearing entitled “Oversight of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS): ICE, CBP, and USCIS.”

The hearing started Tuesday at 10 a.m. as another potential government shutshow looms.

Democrats said they will not vote for a DHS spending bill when funding runs out unless there are “dramatic changes” at U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and other federal law enforcement agencies in the wake of the fatal shootings of Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti in Minneapolis last month.

“Let me be clear: shutting down DHS makes America less safe,” Rep. Andrew R. Garbarino said at the start of the hearing.

Three witnesses are set to testify, including the following:

  • Todd Lyons, senior official performing the duties of the director, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Department of Homeland Security
  • Rodney Scott, commissioner, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Department of Homeland Security
  • Joseph Edlow, director, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), Department of Homeland Security
