WASHINGTON (TNND) — House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., announced Friday that he was widening the congressional investigation into alleged fraud in Minnesota.
“In a new letter to the Minnesota Legislative Auditor Judy Randall, Chairman Comer seeks documents and communication related to any review conducted regarding the Minnesota Department of Human Services and allegations of fraud,” a press release from the Oversight Committee reads.
Comer has also requested that the temporary commissioner at the Minnesota Department of Human Services be interviewed Jan. 30.
Minnesota has faced allegations of fraud beginning last month when YouTuber Nick Shirley went to the state and went around to daycare centers that appeared vacant.
Shirley alleged that millions of taxpayer dollars were funding the vacant centers, meaning there had to be fraud.
The House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform held a hearing earlier this month that was titled “Oversight of Fraud and Misuse of Federal Funds in Minnesota: Part I.”
State lawmakers on Jan. 7 came and testified before the committee regarding concerns about fraud.
Earlier this week, Shirley testified before Congress on his fraud video that was posted on the social media platform, X last week. During his questioning from lawmakers, he argued that there may be more fraud in California than Minnesota.
