WASHINGTON (TNND) — President Donald Trump didn’t mince words when he found out former FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III died.
The president took to Truth Social to share his thoughts.
“Robert Mueller just died. Good, I’m glad he’s dead,” Trump wrote. “He can no longer hurt innocent people!”
Mueller, who was 81, led the FBI from 2001 to 2013 and later served as special counsel investigating Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election and possible ties to Trump’s campaign.
While Mueller’s probe documented extensive Russian interference and contacts with Trump’s associates, it did not establish a criminal conspiracy between the campaign and Moscow.
Trump repeatedly criticized Mueller during and after the investigation, often calling it a “witch hunt.”
Former Democratic President Barack Obama called Mueller “one of the finest directors in the history of the FBI” who saved “countless lives” after transforming the bureau.
“But it was his relentless commitment to the rule of law and his unwavering belief in our bedrock values that made him one of the most respected public servants of our time,” Obama wrote in his own social media post.
Mueller’s family confirmed his death on Friday and asked for privacy.
“With deep sadness, we are sharing the news that Bob passed away,” his loved ones said in a statement, according to the Associated Press.
