WASHINGTON (TNND) — Iran launched a new wave of missile and drone attacks targeting Israel, U.S. military bases, and other regional locations, as the conflict entered its sixth day.
Air raid sirens sounded in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem as Israel reported multiple incoming missile strikes. Iranian state media said additional attacks were directed at American military installations across the region.
The latest escalation follows the U.S. torpedo strike that sank the Iranian frigate IRIS Dena in the Indian Ocean on Wednesday. Sri Lankan officials confirmed 180 were on board at the time of the strike. Thirty-two crew members were rescued and transported to a hospital in Galle, while officials recovered 87 bodies from the strike.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi condemned the strike, calling it an “atrocity at sea” and warning the United States would “bitterly regret” what he described as a dangerous precedent.
In a separate broadcast on Iranian state television, Ayatollah Abdollah Javadi Amoli issued a call for violence, urging action against Israel and calling for what he described as “Trump’s blood.”
Israel said it intercepted multiple Iranian missiles early Thursday and continued its own military campaign against targets in Iran and Lebanon.
The Israeli military said it struck ballistic missile launch sites inside Iran and hit approximately 80 targets in Lebanon linked to the Iranian-backed Hezbollah militant group over the past 24 hours.
Lebanon’s Health Ministry reported at least eight people were killed in Israeli strikes late Wednesday into Thursday.
The war began Saturday when the U.S. and Israel launched coordinated strikes targeting Iranian military leadership, missile infrastructure, and nuclear facilities. Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in those initial strikes, along with other senior officials.
Since then, the conflict has expanded well beyond Iran and Israel.
A drone crashed near an airport in an Azerbaijan exclave bordering northern Iran. Another drone fell near a school, injuring two civilians, Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry said.
In the United Arab Emirates, six people were wounded after a drone was intercepted near Al Dhafra Air Base, which hosts U.S. forces.
Qatar temporarily evacuated residents near the U.S. Embassy in Doha and later reported a missile strike in the city. Saudi Arabia said it destroyed a drone near its northern border.
Meanwhile, a commercial tanker reportedly came under attack off the coast of Kuwait. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations Center confirmed an explosion but did not specify a cause. In previous conflicts, Iran has targeted vessels using explosive devices attached to hulls.
Tehran has warned that regional military and economic infrastructure could be destroyed if the war continues. Global financial markets are closely tracking developments, with oil prices rising again early Thursday amid concerns over supply disruptions.
More than 1,000 people have been killed in Iran since the conflict began, according to Iranian officials. In Lebanon, at least 70 have died. Around a dozen fatalities have been reported in Israel.
The fighting has disrupted oil and gas shipments, complicated international shipping routes, and stranded hundreds of thousands of travelers across the Middle East.
