WASHINGTON (TNND) — Rep. Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) filed a motion to subpoena Department of Homeland Security Kristi Noem to appear before the House Oversight Committee.
“I move to subpoena Kristi Noem to testify before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform,” Krishnamoorthi said.
“This is for every family impacted by Kristi Noem’s terror campaign. They demand answers, and so do I.”
The motion from Krishnamoorthi came during the House Oversight Committee’s hearing on the widespread corruption in Minnesota’s welfare programs. Democratic Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and state Attorney General Keith Ellison testified before the Committee.
In a lengthy monologue, Krishnamoorthi accused Noem of failing to face “consequences” for what he deemed the “rampant corruption and waste within her agency.”
“DHS is out of control,” Krishnamoorthi said. “There is no congressional oversight. I was denied entrance to ICE facilities twice in Illinois. There is no accountability. Secretary Nome has still not appeared before this committee, nor has she responded in a substantive manner to more than one dozen letters I’ve sent her.”
ICE had implemented a Department of Homeland Security (DHS)’s policy requiring a one week notice from lawmakers seeking to visit an ICE facility. A group of 13 Democratic lawmakers filed a lawsuit, and on Monday a federal judge blocked DHS’s policy as litigation continued.
“There are no consequences. Nome is still the leader of DHS, despite regularly breaking the law and abusing her authority,” Krishnamoore continued. “Secretary, Noem must answer for her wrongdoing.”
Krishnamoorthi listed a laundry list of grievances he had with the Homeland Security Secretary, claiming he was twice denied entrance to an ICE facility, and accused her of “misusing funds to buy herself private jets and enrich her associates.”
