WASHINGTON (TNND) — The husband of Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer has been accused by two female staffers of sexual assault and barred from entering the department’s headquarters, The New York Times first reported Thursday.
According to people familiar with the matter, the women alleged that Dr. Shawn DeRemer touched them inappropriately inside the building. One incident, on Dec. 18, was captured on security cameras, the Times reported. The footage reportedly shows DeRemer giving one of the women an extended embrace and is being reviewed as part of a criminal investigation.
The allegations emerged amid an ongoing inspector general investigation into Chavez-DeRemer’s office and two staff members over separate claims of misconduct.
A Jan. 24 police report obtained by the Times references allegations of forced sexual contact in December at the Labor Department.
After DeRemer was barred from the building, a notice viewed by the outlet stated: “If Mr. DeRemer attempts to enter, he is to be asked to leave.”
Separately, the inspector general’s office is investigating a formal complaint alleging that Chavez-DeRemer had an affair with a subordinate, drank on the job, took staff to strip clubs, and used taxpayer funds for personal travel.
“There’s not an ounce of truth to this, and anyone who knows my wife would know that,” DeRemer said in a statement, according to the Times.
