Lindsey Graham pushes Saudi Arabia to be more involved in Iran war

Senator Lindsey Graham pushed Saudi Arabia on Monday to become more involved in the Iran war.

The South Carolina Republican said in a social media post that Riyadh is refusing to use force against Iran, which recently named the son of slain Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei as its ruler.

“It is my understanding the Kingdom refuses to use their capable military as a part of an effort to end the barbaric and terrorist Iranian regime who has terrorized the region and killed 7 Americans,” Graham wrote on X. “Question – why should America do a defense agreement with a country like the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia that is unwilling to join a fight of mutual interest?”

The National News Desk requested comment from Saudi Arabia’s foreign ministry but hasn’t received a response. The office said in a statement earlier in the day, though, that it has condemned Iranian attacks within Saudi Arabia.

“The Kingdom affirms that it retains its full right to take all necessary measures to safeguard its security, sovereignty, and the safety of its citizens and residents, and to deter aggression,” the ministry said. “Targeting civilian objects, airports, and oil facilities reflects nothing but a determination to threaten security and stability and to persist in blatantly violating international charters and international law.”
