A 74-year-old man died after he became trapped in a grain bin in Iowa, according to authorities.

The Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office said officers responded to a home on Tuesday just before 10:15 a.m.

“Information received concerned a farming accident involving a 74-year-old man who had fallen and was trapped inside a grain bin,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release shared on social media.

“Upon their arrival, emergency personnel discovered that the individual was deceased,” the department added.

The sheriff’s office thanked fellow agencies that responded to the scene, including several police departments, as well as fire and rescue teams.

The department did not identify the man.

The announcement comes nearly two weeks after another man died after he was trapped in a grain bin in Iowa.

In that case, 83-year-old Robert Kroll was killed, according to KTIV. The media outlet reported that Crawford County Emergency Management responded to the scene on February 5 shortly before 10 a.m.

“Upon arrival, initial personnel were informed by bystanders that the victim was still trapped in the grain bin, and no communication had been made between them and the victim,” KTIV reported, adding that first responders cut holes into the grain bin to remove the grain so they could get to the man.
