SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (FOX26) β A man was killed in an officer-involved shooting in San Luis Obispo back in February.
San Luis Obispo Police Department dispatch received five emergency calls reporting a man shouting and waving a gun around.
The initial caller reported that a man had threatened to shoot them and their dogs.
Multiple callers believed the man was holding a firearm, and one described it as silver in color, while another caller believed the firearm was a toy gun.
Officers arrived at the intersection of Poinsettia Street and Bluebell Way and located a man matching the description from the 911 calls.
Police said that as the first arriving officer was exiting his patrol car, the man immediately dropped to one knee and pointed the weapon at the officer.
The officer yelled, βHey, stop, stop, stop,β but the police said the man did not respond to commands.
The officer fired a single shot from his rifle, striking the man, who fell to the ground.
Officers requested emergency medical units and performed first aid and CPR until EMS arrived.
The man was confirmed dead at the scene.
