IRVING, Texas (WKRC) – A man pled guilty to murdering two Chick-fil-A employees that worked with his wife, who was working at the restaurant when the incident occurred.

According to court documents and police reports obtained by CBS News, at 3:50 p.m. on June 26, 2024, 37-year-old Oved Bernardo Mendoza Argueta entered the Chick-fil-A location where his wife worked and opened fire in the main seating area and then the kitchen, killing two employees. A third employee was injured, per Law&Crime.

After Argueta’s wife identified him to police, authorities began searching for him, noting that he fled the scene in a vehicle. He was arrested at around 2:50 a.m. the next morning, the Irving Police Department announced.

Police did not speculate on Argueta’s motive throughout the investigation.

Argueta pled guilty to one count of murder and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on February 11, for which he was sentenced to life in prison and 20 years.

“While no sentence can undo the profound loss suffered by these families, this resolution ensures accountability and underscores that acts of violence in our community will be met with serious consequences,” the Dallas District Attorney’s Office said.
