BELLEVUE, Wash. (WKRC) – A man allegedly waited for someone to hit with his car, eventually murdering an 88-year-old woman before going on a hit-and-run spree that involved two more victims.
According to court documents obtained by local outlet KIRO, 68-year-old Mark Adams was “lying in wait for a pedestrian victim” in his white Toyota Camry outside of a YMCA on February 28. After roughly an hour of waiting, 88-year-old Shinko Oshimo was walking through the parking lot when Adams accelerated toward her and adjusted its position to strike her, per information from prosecutors obtained by KOMO.
Witnesses and security video showed Oshimo was carried for around 120 feet on the hood of Adams’ vehicle before she fell to the ground. Adams allegedly drove over Oshimo while she was on the ground and did not stop until he had left the area.
First responders attempted life-saving measures on Oshimo upon arriving at the parking lot, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Adams was connected to the incident through license plate readers and witness testimonies, but authorities wouldn’t track him down until he had committed two more hit-and-runs, the outlets reported.
Police said Adams drove from Bellevue, Washington to Tacoma, where he began following a skateboarder at around 10 a.m. before striking him with his vehicle as he attempted to get off the road.
A second incident allegedly occurred at around 12:39 p.m. at a gas station and involved Adam attempting to strike a truck driver, missing, and readjusting to hit a different pedestrian instead. The victim was reportedly struck from behind and was thrown over the hood, resulting in a spinal fracture.
Adams’ GPS data on his phone corroborated this series of events, authorities said.
Adams was arrested and charged with first-degree premeditated murder and hit and run resulting in death according to KOMO and Law&Crime.
