Michael Reagan, who was the eldest son of former President Ronald Reagan, has died. He was 80 years old.

The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute announced the news on Tuesday, describing Reagan as “a steadfast guardian of his father’s legacy,” as well as a devoted son.

“Michael Reagan lived a life shaped by conviction, purpose, and an abiding devotion to President Reagan’s ideals,” according to a statement.

“Michael Reagan’s passing is a profound loss to all who knew him and to the millions who valued his dedication to preserving President Reagan’s legacy. His presence, warmth, and unwavering commitment will be deeply missed at the Reagan Library and far beyond its walls,” the statement noted.

Reagan, who served as the Foundation’s president, was an author, nationally syndicated radio talk show host, and public speaker. The former president in his 1990 autobiography “An American Life” praised his son’s skills as a writer.

“When I read his book, I had even more of a fatherly pride in Mike than I had had before,” the former president wrote. “He was happy and at peace with himself.”

According to Newsmax, he died Sunday in Los Angeles.

The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute offered heartfelt condolences to Reagan’s wife, Colleen, as well as their children, Cameron and Ashley.
