WASHINGTON (TNND) — The now viral video alleging fraud at Minnesota daycare centers brought swift action from the Trump administration.
Within a matter of days, Jim O’Neill with the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services announced there would be a complete pause in funding to all federal daycare subsidies for the state
An influx of officers from Immigration and Customs Enforcement was also sent to Minnesota to help investigate, since many of those accused of fraud are part of the Somali community.
After some state officials pointed the finger at Gov. Tim Walz for allowing the fraud to carry on for years, Walz dropped out of the governor’s race earlier this month. (TNND)
And on January 13, DHS announced the termination of Somalia’s designation for Temporary Protected Status (TPS), to go into effect on March 17, 2026.
Speaking to reporters from the White House Briefing room Tuesday, President Trump spoke about the allegations.
“Nobody talks about the fact that $19 billion is missing in Minnesota, given to a large degree by Somalians. They’ve taken it.”
In an interview with Sinclair at the White House. Todd Lyons, the Acting Director of ICE, said, “If you think back to what really brought us to Minneapolis specifically, was $9 billion of fraud. Homeland Security Investigations special agents were on the ground doing that. That’s still our goal. We’re going to go ahead and hold those accountable for that lost taxpayer money.”
After some state officials pointed the finger at Gov. Tim Walz for allowing the fraud to carry on for years, Walz dropped out of the governor’s race earlier this month.
“Every minute that I spend defending my own political interest would be a minute I can’t spend defending the people of Minnesota,” he said.
The conservative social media influencer Nick Shirley is now out with a new video, focusing on non-emergency medical transportation companies that receive taxpayer money to take people to and from appointments.
In the video, Shirley visits several locations, to which he said the transport companies are registered, but does not locate them.
He and another man, David, also visit a site with multiple vans with the names of one of the companies.
“I’ve been taking time-stamped, date-stamped photos. All these vehicles are in the exact spot they were 8 months ago. And look, there’s no tire tracks so they haven’t moved,” he tells the camera.
Now, Shirley is scheduled to testify about his findings to members of Congress on Wednesday during a House Judiciary Hearing called “When Public Funds Are Abused: Addressing Fraud and the Theft of Taxpayer Dollars.”
During the January 7 hearing focusing on Minnesota fraud, Democrats accused Republicans of only focusing on alleged fraud committed by Somali Americans and blatantly ignoring fraud, they say, that has been perpetrated by the White House.
“This Administration has been taking billions of taxpayer dollars from the American people and giving it away to their own companies in the form of tax cuts, government contracts, or other government subsidies,” said Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas.
Minnesota is also home to what’s referred to as the “largest COVID fraud scandal in the country,” with a group called Feeding our Future.
The FBI has also been investigating what are known as autism centers.
They are on the agenda as another topic to be discussed at Wednesday’s hearing.
