Missing 15-year-old Texas girl believed to be with wanted man: authorities

Authorities in Texas said they are searching for a missing 15-year-old girl who they believe is with a wanted man.

Maryuri Yolani Gomez Marquez was last seen in Plains, Texas on Sunday morning around 8 a.m., according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. An AMBER alert was issued in connection with her disappearance, the agency said on Tuesday.

The agency said the teenager was last seen with 41-year-old Juan Orlando Garcia Sarmiento.

The Yoakum County Sheriff’s Office said Garcia Sarmiento “is wanted by law enforcement on related charges.” The department did not go into detail about the charges.

“The Yoakum County Sheriff’s Office along with the Department of Public Safety and other law enforcement partners in multiple jurisdictions are actively working to locate Maryuri Yolani Gomez Marquez,” the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post.

Authorities described the teenager as a Hispanic girl who is approximately 5 feet 1 inch tall and weighs about 125 pounds. She has brown hair and brown eyes.

Garcia Sarmiento is also Hispanic. He is approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighs 180 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes.

“They are believed to be traveling in a black 2010 Ford F-150 crew cab TX plates WGV-9997,” the sheriff’s office said.
