LAS VEGAS (WKRC) – A mother’s search for her missing daughter ended in heartbreak after she learned the woman had died following a traffic collision, authorities said.
PEOPLE reported that Cheri Brown said she had spent hours trying to locate her 33-year-old daughter, Amber Brown, on June 19, calling local hospitals before discovering Amber was at the Clark County Coroner’s Office. Police said Amber was struck by a vehicle while crossing the street about 5 p.m. and was taken to a hospital, where she later died.
“I totally broke down,” Cheri said.
PEOPLE reported that Las Vegas Metropolitan Police said the driver, 37-year-old Angel Franco Merida, was arrested at the scene. A 14-year-old boy who was a passenger in the vehicle was not injured.
Court records show a Las Vegas judge set Merida’s bail at $50,000. He posted bond and was released, then later arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and deported to Guatemala. He killed my daughter. Just because he is from another country — it shouldn’t be a free ticket to just flee the country.”
